Testing Your Car Battery To Make Sure It Is Good

After a long stretch of very cold or very hot weather, a car battery can suffer damage. At these times, you may want to test your car's battery to make sure that it is still in top working order. Honda World in Conway, AR wants you to know that testing a car battery is not a complicated process.

To begin with, you will need a car battery testing device called a voltmeter. Always test the battery with the ignition and the lights off. Connect the voltmeter terminals to the positive and the negative poles of the car's battery. The red clamp will go on the red battery terminal, and the black clamp goes on the black terminal.

If the test reading shows that your battery is at 12.4 volts or higher, the battery is good. If the test shows 12 volts or less, the battery definitely needs to be replaced as soon as possible.
